Sea buckthorn grows along the Baltic coast and in orchards inland. The berries are small, orange and sharp, and they bruise easily, so they are pressed as soon as they are picked.
At Dzīle Juices in Valmiera, whole berries are cold-pressed and bottled without added sugar or water. The juice is cloudy and separates in the bottle; that is normal.
Because it is not heat-treated, the juice ships chilled and keeps for a few days once opened.
