Description
Katrīna Dimanta’s debut solo album CD – “Colors” – features eleven tracks, including the singles “Pepper,” “You Look at Me,” and “I Walk the Path of Baltic Snow.”
"The album is eclectic and beautifully showcases the various ways I sing, play, and create music. Pop, folk, country, rap—there’s at least one song on this record that will surprise listeners," says Katrīna Dimanta.
Some of the songs have already been performed live and received positive feedback from audiences, while two tracks on the album remain unheard by many listeners. “I want these songs to resonate with people,” says Dimanta, an active performer who appreciates having had the chance to test their lasting appeal during concerts before recording them in the studio. Katrīna also writes her own lyrics, and her songs feature verses from traditional Latvian folk songs: “Latvian folk music is an immense heritage that we actually use very little of today. That’s why I’m delighted to breathe new life into these timeless melodies,” she adds.
Meanwhile, the lyrics for the song “Continue” are adapted from Ojārs Vācietis.
In recording the album, Katrīna drew upon her skills as a multi-instrumentalist and collaborated with musicians such as Laima Dimanta, Rolands Zelčs, Ginta Garūta, Kristaps Strods, Matīss Uškāns, Jānis Eglītis, Reinis Briģis, Edgars Rakovskis, and Marka.
The album was made possible thanks to 153 supporters through a crowdfunding campaign, as well as author grants from AKKA/LA, LAIPA, and VKKF. Katrīna extends heartfelt thanks to her family—especially her sister Laima and brother Tenis—as well as to her friends for their valuable advice.
2021 was a diverse year for Katrīna Dimanta. The musician performed alongside the international “Nufolk Orchestra” and also gave solo shows. She served as the musical director for the program “Let There Be Festivities!” and even organized a masterclass on learning to play the ukulele. Additionally, Dimanta composed music for Latvia’s School Youth Song and Dance Festival.
